At Ireby, we are dedicated to creating a loving community for all, where all are celebrated as unique individuals and where passions and talents can flourish. We learn how God teaches us how to live our lives, how to grow relationships, accept others and use the words and example of Jesus as a foundation for all our learning.
Our children are taught how to be part of a loving community of learners – collaborating together, sharing their questions and ideas and investigating geographical questions to gain a deeper understanding and connection with our world. It teaches our children dignity and respect through and gives them an appreciation of their beautiful locality and how they can play a role in preserving it for generations to come.
Our aim is to fulfil our Christian vision through geography and support our children to be part of a community of loving learners, committed to knowing and understanding more about our world, about themselves and about their place and purpose in it.
Definition of geography: 'National Geographic'
‘The study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. They also examine how human culture interacts with the natural environment, and the way that locations and places can have an impact on people. Geography seeks to understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop and change over time.’.
We value fieldwork and first-hand experiences. Using our minibus we have access to our wonderful locality. We can study rivers from source to mouth, mountains and coastlines by walking on them. We also meet with the people who manage our environment (such as the National Trust Rangers) and learn about the importance of their work and take time to be still and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
Our work is rooted in our school Christian vision, 'Created to do Good' Ephesians 2:10.
